The company was selected as the Olin Cup's first-ever community winner and is eligible for funding from the Skandalaris Student Venture Fund (SSVF). This fund is an MBA student-led venture fund in the Olin Business school.

How culturally smart are you? Have you ever been told that you're using the wrong utensil for a particular entree? Or you're not supposed to walk into a certain area with shoes on? Ever found yourself in other situations where you had to learn about certain cultural customs (maybe even the hard way)? Tell us and you may win ticket around-the-world!

We believe traveling offers lifetime experiences. Mastering a language and keeping abreast of cultural sensitivity can significantly enhance the overall experience. As a result, travelers can better immerse themselves in the culture, the social life, and the food.

We are looking for lessons and tips based on your travels and cross-cultural experiences.

Top ten finalists will be chosen by us and then voted by our fans, the LangLearner team and contest organizers. Judging will be based on the entry’s uniqueness, practicality, and intrinsic value to a world traveler. Rankings of the top ten will be announced on or about June 5, 2010 and public scoring will close June 30, 2010.

LangLearner Traduttore (Translator) Takes Silver in Samsung Application Store Developer Challenge 2009!

LangLearner won Silver place for its submission of the Italian version of the mobile application, LangLearner Translator, to Samsung’s first worldwide Developer Challenge. The Challenge brought together some of the world’s top mobile development talent, all vying to win a chunk of the $330,000 in prize money.

The awarded application, LangLearner Translator, can translate to and from over 10 languages and correctly pronounce the audio in each of the supported languages including English, Spanish, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Greek, and Dutch. It is a tool to easily communicate with others, make new friends, and gracefully handle any situation, which requires knowledge of a foreign language.

The awarded applications will be featured on Samsung’s Italy - Application Store. Currently, the LangLearner Translator mobile travel application is available at Windows MarketPlace.

On December 10, 2009, LangLearner presented and compete at the JCI's Socially Responsible Business Competition Awards Ceremony as a one of the top three finalist along with Cedric, John and Rachel. It was a great privilege to be selected and be part of the competition with some of the top contestants and liked-minded socially responsible entrepreneurs. All strive for making an impact and difference to the society with innovative products and business models. The competition and event took place in St. Louis, MO but with the goal and mission gearing toward the global nations. The participation and exercise gave us more perspective and the an opportunity to go through a thoughtful process and plan to become a better social citizen as an enterprise and individuals.

About the JCI competition:

The search is on for the most innovative and socially responsible business plans by social entrepreneurs under 40 in the St. Louis area. The competition is open to both for-profit and non-profit initiatives from new or existing businesses. All entries must contribute to advancing one or more of the development goals outlined for the competition and show compliance with the UN Global Compact 10 Principles of Corporate Social Responsibility. A panel of top professionals in the St. Louis entrepreneurship community will judge the submissions. The winner will receive a cash grant and other support for the implementation of their plan.
